Akhona’s Journey is the story of a young survivor of abuse that threatens her life and her childhood.
The journey takes Akhona through many traumatic experiences, including betrayal by someone she trusted. Will anyone step up for her as she faces life or death decisions?
The story is told through a seven-part animated video series, with an accompanying story book and resource pack.
The film and book, co-authored by Deborah Ewing, were created through a partnership between Lulibo Projects in Nyanga, Cape Town, and ACT Ubumbano.
The purpose is to share true events to spark honest conversations about confronting issues such as gender-based violence and power abuse. The aim is to strengthen support for young people and recognise their ability to be agents of change in their community.
