Chameleon

Despite his size he’s a

A shade-shifting wizard

But this baby chameleon

Should be the same colour

As the leaf he is on!

He’s in grave danger if he’s seen

He’d better turn quickly

From brown to bright green

The short time transformation takes

Is quite long enough

For hungry snakes

It’s no use clinging to that palm

Only camouflage will

Keep him safe from harm

I ‘ve waited days to see him here

Just so I can watch

Him disappear.
